Our first true traditional Czech meal was at U Fleků. This is a restaurant or pub and brewery that has been open since 1499! That’s right this place was over 500 years old. We ate in a beautiful courtyard where long tables and benches sat many different groups together. There were two men playing the Tuba and Accordion, which gave the restaurant a very Czech vibe. There was a waiter who took your food order and then another guy who carried beer around to those who wanted beer. For dinner I had the Svíčková Na Smetaně with Housekové Knedlíky, or in English beef sirloin in a creamy vegetable sauce with dumplings. Tim got the pork ribs and an apple strudel for dessert. All the food was delicious, and the live music definitely made this a great first stop for Czech food.
