When we first started traveling together after we got married I scoffed at the idea of eating at a McDonald’s. I mean you’re in a new place why would you miss out on all the new foods to eat at a chain restaurant? However, as I rolled my eyes at my husband for the billionth time in Paris as he bit into a McDonald’s hamburger outside of the Louvre I saw his eyes pop out of his head. Again rolling my eyes thinking he was just really hungry and would get excited over anything, I grabbed the burger, took a bite, and flipped out with shock! It was amazing (I kid you not) the burger was made with a Brioche bun! After that one bite I conceded that we would visit ONE McDonald’s per country we visited. So that little back story is how we ended up going to McDonald’s in Prague on our first day.
Now to the food at McDonald’s. As you may, or may not know, McDonald’s has regional menus (yes even in the US different regions have slightly different menu items). It’s actually genius to have a staple menu, but then sprinkle in some local flavors depending on the location.
In the Czech Republic some of the regional add ons to the menu that we tried were the Rustic Fries, Garlic Chicken Nuggets, and Fried Cheese Wedges. The Rustic Fries were basically steak fries, and in my opinion not great. The Garlic Chicken Nuggets were very similar to McDonald’s regular Chicken Nuggets, and not being a fan of their regular nuggets I wasn’t really impressed. Now, the Fried Cheese Wedges, they were amazing! It was basically Nacho Cheese Fried into a wedge, definitely not a culinary revolution by any means, or even something I would eat on a regular basis, but it made for a tasty snack. I also ordered a small cheeseburger, which tasted like a typical McDonald’s cheeseburger, and washed it all down with an Orange Fanta (Fanta is very popular in Europe).
